Enjoy Your New Paul Rudd Screensaver

Perfect for your home office or at work! (Well, with the sound off. It's verbally NTSF.)

And sorry. The preceding commercial is not part of the screensaver. Disappointing, I know.

Paula Deen Will Never Die!

And that's a good thing, Y'all! The terrific Betsy Sodaro, an up and coming star at the Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles, is Paula Deen, master slayer of the sugar disease. She's packed with pharmaceuticals, ready to generate revenue for personal wealth, and to eradicate damage causing glucose levels. That silly 'ol diabetes won't know what hit it. From 'Funny or Die's' kitchen, to yours.

How To Write for (Fun and) Profit

I'm a little late in posting this because I've been busy reading how I can sell out and make millions writing screenplays in Hollywood. I now have the tools that will make me bucket loads of cash, walk red carpets and develop a $2000 a day coke habit. Ok, make that alcoholism. And you can too! Watch Ben Garant and Tom Lennon's commercial above. And remember - you can suffer through re-writes, firings, hirings and arbitration! Know the hierarchy in studio parking! Find the best In-N-Out! Learn how to say "YES!" to the dumbest ideas! Listen. Now Go Read the Book. And Learn!

Funny or Die Presents: Want to See A Dead Body?

Just remember, if you love weird, bizarre, edgy comedy, and COME ON, you know you do - HBO is bringing back a new season of Funny Or Die Presents. It will be more in-your-face strange fun that will make you laugh, black out and wake up tied in bound in the back of a van. Okay. That's a lie. But it definitely tastes like this. So, tune in on January 14th 10pm.

To tie you over - here's a funny comedy short from Rob Huebel featuring NFL guy Warren Sapp. Want to See a Dead Body in some indirect way takes me back to my hometown in Westchester County, New York of the 70's and 80's - when the Mafia would dump their hits in the woods behind our Middle School. Older kids would go a-hunting for a corpse. Thank you Funny or Die - for recreating this spirit with grown ups.

Funny of Die Presents - Season 2

From the funny people over at FunnyorDie.com, FunnyorDie Presents returns to HBO for season two of absurdist and funny comedy shorts starting January 14th at midnight.

In this blog's and other comedy fetishists' opinion, the first season was a bit uneven, but not always due to the lack of funny. (There were a few clunkers or two). The main issue was how some 5 minute shorts by more popular alternative comedians were chopped up into installments, each airing weeks apart, losing the flow and adding confusion to the quirky storylines. Meanwhile, some of the weaker shorts were broadcast in one go.

Enough fans voiced their unhappiness about this online, so perhaps the powers that be have revised the format. Nonetheless, it's something to look forward to in 2011. More teasers to come!

Funny or Die Presents on HBO...More Sneak Peaks

Funny Or Die Presents premieres on HBO Friday, Feburary 19th. Here's another sneak peek. 'Hold Up' was written by Rob Huebel. He also co-stars alongside Ed Helms, Tom Lennon, Creed Bratton and Rachael Harris. Looks super fun.

Time for a Palette Cleanser...

...a la Web Soup. (Watch the show and you'll know what I mean.) After 24 hours of NBC folding in on itself and taking my Conan with it, I need a little breather.

From Funny Or Die, a little promo for 92YTribeca. Just take it from us New Yorkers, we know all the cool spots.

Speaking of FunnyorDie.com, in June of 2009 HBO signed a development deal with the comedy site to produce half hour comedies for the channel. It looks like we'll be seeing them on air in February. (Source of tip:Bill Brasky over at www.aspecialthing.com)

Funny or Die and HBO Spawn New Content

In June of 2008, Funny or Die and HBO entered into a multi-million dollar deal commissioning the website to produce ten original half hour programs for the cable network. HBO also claimed a small stake in ownership of the comedy site. Production has been underway for some notable comedians involved in the project. (Notable for me, because I am obsessed with Human Giant and the comedians therein).

Paul Scheer (Human Giant) began production last March on Designated Driver. It also stars Rob Riggle (The Daily Show). It promises to be hilarious because Scheer is amazing and Riggle defines awesome.

Brett Gelman, otherwise known as the little bit of luck dude in those Lottery ads (which I'm sure he's tired of being defined by...sorry), taped his UCB show 1,000 Cats for HBO last March as well. Yeah, I know it's summer. All those episodes of 30 Rock and The Office back then made me a little late on this.

Rob Huebel 's Holdup was filmed several weeks ago, and stars himself, Reno 911's Thomas Lennon, The Office's Creed Bratton and Ed Helms (who is now super famous for The Hangover), Malin Akerman (27 Dresses), Rachael Harris (also The Hangover), and Weird Al Yankovic (every geek song parody known to mankind).

What to Watch...On The Internet

Jason Sudeikis in Crackle.com's "The Line"

Yes, there is good comedy on the internet. Fresh baked, ready for the clicking kind of sketch comedy/talks shows, slickly produced and cast with the funny and the famous who've by passed the fundamental television path and did a Sarah Palin by going rogue. Thanks to the advent of Funnyordie, Crackle and MyDamnChannel, familiar comedy talent is cranking out ideas and baking up new comedy for the taking. Whether you're taking a break from work, or need a diversion from network television, which is eroding due to distractions that include viewers turning more to the internet for entertainment, you will always find something hilarious to hang your hat on.

Here are my top favorite online comedy selections found in recent weeks:

TheWB.com's "Children's Hospital" on thewb.com

"Children's Hospital" TheWB.com, already reviewed in a previous entry (just below) here at TVblogster, is a hilarious hospital parody written, directed and co-produced by Rob Corddry, with the help of David Wain and Jonathan Stein. A parade of familiar faces from comedy abound: Megan Mullally, SNL's Jason Sudeikis, The Office's Ed Helms, Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria-Parker partake in the satire. It's raunchy fun, and worth viewing all ten episodes, now available at thewb.com.

Joe Lo Truglio and Bill Hader in "The Line" on Crackle.com

"The Line", Produced by Broadway Video and directed by Seth Meyers, was originally filmed and released on Crackle.com last summer. Bill Hader (another SNL-er) and The State's Joe Lo Tuglio play die hard SciFi geeks who camp out two weeks before a long awaited movie release, only to be met with the trials and tribulations of sidewalk treachery. See our heroes as they swelter in the heat, don't shower, tackle a trio of shape shifting creepy guys, placate a pissed off theater manager, and out smart an annoying party crasher called "The Spoiler" (played by Paul Scheer) who threatens to spill the movie's highly secretive twist. But most of all, see them try to keep their place in line. Catch it on crackle.com.

Paul Rudd in "Wainy Days: The Pickup" on mydamnchannel.com

My Damn Channel harbors one of my favorite series of comedies from one of eccentric talents of The State - David Wain. Wainy Days is the ongoing saga of Wain trying to get a date. The episode near and dear to my heart is The Pickup. It co-stars Paul Rudd as the master of picking up chicks. He is too beautiful and funny to be real. Watch it on mydamnchannel.com.

Jon Hamm guests on "Between Two Ferns" on FunnyorDie.com

The masterminds behind FunnyorDie have created a goldmine of original, funny and highly silly comedy shorts online. Of course, The Landlord starring the two year old Pearl and Will Farrell is now infamous. There is so much to explore on this site; however, my personal favorite lately is Between Two Ferns, a three part chat show starring host Zack Galifianakis who interviews Mad Men's Jon Hamm (who appears to be a true comedian at heart), Jimmy Kimmell and Michael Cera. Galifianakis is a frightening interviewer whose questions are uncomfortable and insanely funny. Find all three parts at FunnyorDie. Click on following links: (Michael Cera), (Jon Hamm), (Jimmy Kimmel).

The spectrum of good quality comedy that is comparable to television fare is out there for the plucking. Not all online comedy content is pitch perfect, but if one searches enough, there is plenty to enjoy.
