Thinking about what to get grandma that will make her weaponry collection gleam this Christmas? NTSF:SD:SUV's Dragon Shumway (Rob Huebel) has a great deal for you!
Another new parody infomercial has cropped up on the Adult Swim airwaves in the dead of night - 4am to be exact. Tune in each night this week to Swords, Knives, Very Sharp Objects and Cutlery, for great deals on the tools of the Asian masters.
Here's an episode where things get a little dicey:

Tom Lennon on AOTS
At one point while living here in Los Angeles, both Rob Huebel and Tom Lennon were my neighbors at the same time. The proximity of Huebel's house to Lennon's was so close, their friendship must have blown up into a magnetic force bringing them together in a professional, unshakable bond, so much so, I don't think Huebel told Lennon that he has moved. Furthermore, it seems there is hardly a movie they've done in which they were not both cast: Hell Baby, What to Expect When You're Expecting, Welcome to the Jungle, plus 2009's I Love You Man.
In addition to this, Lennon is a semi-regular guest at Rob's The Shit Show, a get together of comedians, friends and actors who take the stage at the UCBLA to show the audience videos of past projects that are so embarrassing (to them), it makes their gonads shrivel. (Seriously. Some are so bad, they're fantastic.) So, from where I'm sitting, Huebel and Lennon are conjoined at the hip. (Sorry Paul Scheer, Rob's usual comedy partner.)
Huebel has been guest hosting on G4's Attack of the Show this week, and invited Lennon to Bro out with him. At this point, seeing the both of them together is just a natural vision, a force of nature.
As for The Shit Show - Lennon is the undisputed winner of embarrassing past projects, especially those of his youth back in Chicago. The corporate video he shows in the clip above was one of the clips once viewed at Rob's shit fest.

NTSF:SD:SUV Will Rule The World
It's a double dose of hilarity on tonight's episode of NTSF: SD:SUV. Executive Producer Curtis Gwinn wrote and appears, plus Childrens' Hospital's Rob Huebel will portray Piper's ex-husband, Dragon Shumway (brilliant name!), back to seek revenge. To add more to the goodness, the ladies of NTSF are going to hit the town with guns-a-blaze for the bachelorette party.
NTSF has ruled my heart as my favorite comedy these days, edging Childrens' off its pedestal. Paul Scheer and company have produced a terrific niche comedy, and the outreach among the cast and crew to TV bloggers who've championed them has been nothing but generous.
NTSF has also been renewed by Adult Swim for a third season. Childrens' Hospital has been given the nod for season 5, and is currently writing new episodes. (Source: Adult Swim)
If you haven't already - check out my interview with NTSF's Kate Mulgrew.

"The Disappearing Salami"
How I Met Your Mother's season finale happened last night. Lily and Marshall had the baby. Barney and Quinn are in love. Ted and Victoria find each other in the nick of time. There are weddings, but we still don't know who is marrying whom.
Then this happened.
Thank you, Mr. Flanagan, for allowing Barney to believe that making a salami disappear was the best magic trick of all.

Funny or Die Presents: Want to See A Dead Body?
Just remember, if you love weird, bizarre, edgy comedy, and COME ON, you know you do - HBO is bringing back a new season of Funny Or Die Presents. It will be more in-your-face strange fun that will make you laugh, black out and wake up tied in bound in the back of a van. Okay. That's a lie. But it definitely tastes like this. So, tune in on January 14th 10pm.
To tie you over - here's a funny comedy short from Rob Huebel featuring NFL guy Warren Sapp. Want to See a Dead Body in some indirect way takes me back to my hometown in Westchester County, New York of the 70's and 80's - when the Mafia would dump their hits in the woods behind our Middle School. Older kids would go a-hunting for a corpse. Thank you Funny or Die - for recreating this spirit with grown ups.

Red Hour Films to Produce Two Web Series for Paramount

Thanks to the Twitterverse, I just caught this feed in the middle of wrapping up the work day: Paramount Digital Entertainment announced today that Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films has signed on to do two digital shorts for the four year old venture. One web series will be an animated version of the 2001 movie Zoolander, where Stiller will reprise the character of the fashion model, and the other will be Billy Glimmer: Entertainer of the Century, starring himself and Human Giant's Rob Huebel.
Nobody provides this source better than Dave Itzoff, who interviewed Stiller on this new venture over at NYTimes.com.

Birthday Time...
Today's Rob Huebel's birthday. He's a ball busting, kick ass comedian who makes me laugh when I don't think I have a laugh left in me. Member of the comedy team Human Giant, you can also find him in the upcoming Children's Hospital and the animated feature film Despicable Me, where he lends his voice as a news anchorman. He makes a mean anchorman too.
From Human Giant...
Happy Birthday, Rob.

Rob Huebel is Sneaking Up On His Enemies
Somewhere in the wilds of Southern California - we'll call the place Los Angeles - is a man with a computer, a Blackberry and a Twitter account. He has rescued American journalists from hard labor in North Korea ("Bill Clinton can take credit for securing the release of the journalists...but just KNOW that it was really me..."), has given super hero advice to those getting laid ("If you go on a date tonight and you end up making out, stop for a second and whisper: "I'm from the future"...then keep going..."), and is in a state of constant alert for unsavory elements ready to invade his airspace ("I will sneak up on my enemies at once. They will look foolish bathed in my toilet of hate...").
It's doubtful that Rob Huebel has enemies. He's well liked. From a far, my guess is that he's somewhat like the Seth Olenick photo above - hiding in plain sight, sitting silent until the right thought comes along, or the funniest quip is ripe for telling. Accessible to fans - but as any private citizen who defies evil - up to a point.
His Twitter presence is just the tip. Huebel (as I've mentioned a few dozen times on this blog) is co-creator of MTV's Human Giant, and is currently working on a script with partners Aziz Ansari, Paul Scheer and Jason Woliner to bring the show to the big screen. He played douchebag Tevin Downey in the film I Love You Man (now out on DVD), and guest starred in Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, 30 Rock as well as co-starred in Rob Corddry's web series Children's Hospital. He's also recently enlived Gary Busey's big stonking teeth in Mean's Cinemash parody of the old Kevin Swayze flick Point Break.
Huebel is one of the legends of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre where he performs weekly at their Los Angeles location. (He was everywhere at last week's Del Close Marathon: Doug Benson Interruption, Facebook, Match Game 76, Mantziggle, Respecto Mantalban, Assscat - staple shows all UCB fans know and love.)
Yet, in between performances and moments on screen, his Twitter presence lends a connection to those who love the hilarious thoughts that waft through his mind. In the past year, as his Tweets became more hilarious and prolific, and as things got a little tough in my life, I found that a funny notion micro-blogged from Rob, and visits to his Tumblr blog, just when things started to suck, made life - bearable.
Rob will be appearing in Michael and Michael Have Issues' season finale tomorrow night on Comedy Central (10:30pm). He's also just finished filming a pilot for Fox - The Station. It's Executive Produced by Ben Stiller and directed by David Wain. Huebel plays a CIA operative/assassin. As per his Tweet the week of shooting...
"Shooting with @davidwain. Just got to assassinate someone from a moving car. Squibs, blood, guns. Someones got a hard on."
Sounds like somebody loves his job.
That is...when he's not following around neighbors in his Prius on "Follow Fridays".
Watch out, America.

New Pilot for Fox: The Station

Pretty cool news, this...
Ben Stiller will be Executive Producing a comedy pilot for Fox Television about about CIA operatives in South America called The Station. David Wain (Wainy Days Stella) will direct. As for the cast, John Goodman (Roseanne, The Big Lebowski) has just signed on to star. Joining him will be comedian Whitney Cummings (who I saw at the Hollywood Improv last month opening for my funny friend Bryan Callen and she killed), Justin Bartha, the missing groom, found sunburned on the roof of Caesar's in The Hangover, Julio Oscar Mechoso, and the awesome Rob Huebel (Human Giant) who should be appearing on Michael and Michael Have Issues in upcoming weeks and currently appearing in the video below.

Funny or Die and HBO Spawn New Content
In June of 2008, Funny or Die and HBO entered into a multi-million dollar deal commissioning the website to produce ten original half hour programs for the cable network. HBO also claimed a small stake in ownership of the comedy site. Production has been underway for some notable comedians involved in the project. (Notable for me, because I am obsessed with Human Giant and the comedians therein).
Paul Scheer (Human Giant) began production last March on Designated Driver. It also stars Rob Riggle (The Daily Show). It promises to be hilarious because Scheer is amazing and Riggle defines awesome.
Brett Gelman, otherwise known as the little bit of luck dude in those Lottery ads (which I'm sure he's tired of being defined by...sorry), taped his UCB show 1,000 Cats for HBO last March as well. Yeah, I know it's summer. All those episodes of 30 Rock and The Office back then made me a little late on this.
Rob Huebel 's Holdup was filmed several weeks ago, and stars himself, Reno 911's Thomas Lennon, The Office's Creed Bratton and Ed Helms (who is now super famous for The Hangover), Malin Akerman (27 Dresses), Rachael Harris (also The Hangover), and Weird Al Yankovic (every geek song parody known to mankind).

Birthday Time...
Happy Birthday to Rob Huebel, comedian, actor, writer, co-star of MTV's Human Giant and premiere jester of the Twitter-verse.
This video is so packed with comedy, it doesn't even fit in my blog template. Now that's how much he kicks ass.

A Night of Finales
Summer beckons. My beach bag, filled with suntan lotion, beach towel and pool pass has waited in the back of my closet as fall turned to brittle winter. But hello to summer means goodbye to some television favorites for the season. Tonight is season finale night for NBC's comedy Thursday lineup (at least the part I watch).
Parks and Recreation: Rock Show
The Office: Company Picnic
Airs tonight on NBC at 9:00pm edt/8:00pm cdt
Is the photo above a spoiler? Story: It's a warm and muggy day in Scranton. Thunder rumbles in the distance as fear quakes across the corporate park. Jim and Pam, driven to madness by Michael's neediness, poisons his cup of morning milk and sugar. He gasps his last breath. They frantically try to cover up clues to the murder. They cackle. He is dead. The fearsome annoying master is dead.
Not in this episode. It's just Michael dieing inside after finding out Holly and AJ will be at the company shindig entitled "Company Picnic". There will be twists of ankles and Michael trying to win back the affection of Holly who has moved on, while Michael grits his teeth and calls AJ fattie to cut him, even though he's totally rocking.

Even if the Nashua couple goes down in flames, I'm still shipping AJ and Ms. Flax. They are so fricking cute. It's like a Jim and Pam redux - Nashua version. Also, it's nice to see Rob Huebel and Amy Ryan back, with the hope of seeing them again next season.
30 Rock: Kidney Now!
Parks and Recreation: Rock ShowAirs tonight on NBC at 8:30pm EDT/9:30pm CDT
The casts are off Andy's legs. What better way to test them out then to perform at a gig. Leslie tries to balance out her personal and professional life while everyone on her staff heads out to watch Ann's boyfriend shred the guitar.

So goodbye old season, and hello summer time. These shows will return when the calendar flips the page to September.
When we last left Jack, his newly discovered biological father Milton dropped the kidney bomb: he needed one. Oh joy! He has a son with a spare kidney! The look on Jack's face could crush a truck. In tonight's episode, Jack tries to help his new dad without going under the knife by rounding up a bevvy of celebs for a benefit show to get Milton a new organ. Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Mary J. Blige, Clay Aitken are summoned under duress to perform in the feel good show of the year.
Meanwhile, now that Liz is enjoying the fame of the new "deal breaker" catch phrase, Jenna forces her to go on a trashy talk show to promote it. Tracy is invited by his high school to speak at graduation, but Kenneth has to help him overcome his embarrassing school memories.
It's been a real treat to see Alan Alda as Jack's dad. I'm holding out hope we have a Colleen sighting tonight just to see Elaine Stritch. A finale without Elaine is like, as Black Adder once said to Queenie, "... a broken pencil. Pointless".

Sneak Peak for The Office Season Finale
NBC has provided some glimpses into this Thursday's season finale of The Office entitled "Company Picnic". Looks like Charles Miner is back to being a total ass to Jim, and Jim takes the assery in stride - until he's pushed by Miner into a firey rage of fiendish anger as the demons from hell soar from Halpert's mouth onto Charle's head with bloody vengence, feeding on his eyeballs - oh wait. Maybe not. But that would sure look good in IMAX. The real IMAX.
Meanwhile, Dwight's an idiot. Kevin cannot play volleyball, and Jim and Pam's adorableness in the afternoon sun is making me sleepy. So sleepy. Turn it up a notch, writers! Or better yet, hire me. I've got some ideas.
Seeing Amy Ryan return alongside Rob Huebel who plays AJ "The Boyfriend" is enough to make me all light and fluffy happy like a cloud. Just a quick look and I already like these two as a fictional couple. I'm going to go further and rattle some windows here. I don't want Michael to win Holly back. He doesn't deserve her. Or she doesn't deserve him, or however that bizarre Scott saying goes.
I know...I know. All Office fans are rooting for for a reconciliation between the former HR Rep and Michael, but after his behavior of late, Scott has pretty much fallen out of favor with me. Of course, the writers will provide an attempt to show us how much Michael and Holly are "soul mates", much along the lines of Jim and Pam, but I'm not buying it. Besides, we've been down this road before with the future Halperts, having already witnessed Karen getting hurt as a price for the wonderous union of Jim and Pam (which I cheered despite really feeling Fillipelli's pain.) Let's not see another innocent significant other fall wayside to the whims of the writers who think they are giving us a satisfying coupling in Michael and Holly. In the writing world, it's kind of lazy. Michael has been a less than sympathetic figure this season for me to want Ms. Flax to run into his arms.
But if Michael does end up with Holly one day, I hope it will be due to Michael having spiritually grown. If Michael can just see himself the way others see him, he'd be more settled. If he could only be more sensitive to the situations of others, not care how things relates to him or how they can make HIM feel better, then he might stand a chance in holding onto Holly in my mind. I also hope that if they do unite, it's in the last season of the show, and that it's a result of an organic progression whereby Holly and AJ just naturally break up. I don't want their love to be blown asunder, but if Michael and Holly are made for each other, then let it be...but let Michael travel down that lonesome road all by himself for a while. Let him earn it. However, he might be a more complicated soul than that.
But for now, I'm "Team AJ". I love me some Rob Huebel (Human Giant, I Love You Man) so there is a wee bit of a soft spot for the boyfriend who wants to build Holly a house. I mean... Come on! He's awesome. But if the writers make him a d-bag, I will be heading into the summer like an agitated wasp, and I will sting...oh boy will I sting.
There's supposed to be a "twist" in Thursday's episode that will make us freak out over the summer. Spoilers show it could be a Jim and Pam moment caused by an injury at the picnic. So many speculations are being chattered about, so I won't spoil anything here, but could it change the course of The Office? Is the "twist" about Michael? I'm exhausted. Whatever.
The Office "Company Picnic" airs this Thursday on NBC at 9:00pm ET/8:00pm CT.
